February 6, 2003.Cellular communications network of the new cdma2000 standard has been launched into the commercial operation. The networking started on February 6, 2003 at 14.00 in the sales centers located by the addresses: Zolotay Gorka str., 5, Zolotaya Gorka Str.,16 and Skoriny Ave., 84a.

Minister of Communications of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Vladimir Goncharenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Chinese People’s Republec Mr. Yuj Chzhentsi, spokesmen of PJSC JSCB “Infobank”, “Minskaya Gorodskaya Telephonnaya Set”, “Minskobltelecom”, Huawei Technologies (China), CBOSS (Russian Federation) and also the members of ministries and authorities, key enterprises of the Republic, etc. participated at this solemn event.

Minister of Communications Mr. Vladimir Goncharenko accentuated that “a great consideration is given to the communication facilities including mobile communications in the Republic”, and expressed a hope “that the new standard of cellular communications cdma2000 shall make a worthy competition to the existing operators”.

Mr. Yuj Chzhentsi noted with a pride that “Chinese company Huawei Technologies won the Tender for procurement of the equipment for the new cdma2000 network”. According to his opinion “this fact shall impart a new impulse to the development of economic relationship between Belarus and China”.

The speakers shared the opinion that opening of the cellular communications network of cdma2000 standard in Belarus is a great forward step in the field of telecommunications, it’s a gateway to the new qualitative level of cellular communications.
