First in the world commercial roaming between IMT-MC-450 networks (cdma2000) is opened on May 30, 2003. In Russia company “Delta Telecom” under the brand name SKYLINK provides telecommunications services of the new generation on the territory of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region. In Belarus these services are rendered by BelCel JV. Opening of the international roaming testifies the demand for this standard in CIS countries. SKYLINK and BELCEL subscribers are first of all businessmen and corporate customers. BelCel JV is the first cellular operator in the Republic of Belarus. The company has been providing cellular communications services since May 1993.

Since February 2003 BelCel JV provides cellular communications services in cdma2000 standard. At present time 3G network operates on the territory that inhabited by more than 50% of urban population of Belarus, including cities Minsk, Mogilev, Vitebsk, Grodno, Brest and Gomel.

BELCEL network covers in total 61% of the national territory. 72% of commonwealth reside on this territory including 79% of urban population.
